Swiss Crocodile Brown

Updated: Jun 8, 2023

“Crocodiles". The Swiss Mountain locomotives that pulled heavy freight trains over the Gotthard grades are known as "Crocodiles". The design (hoods mounted for articulation, stretched out shape) and the colour gave them their name. These units "snaked" like a reptile through the curves when negotiating turnout combinations and S curves. The design and the pulling power of the original locomotive impressed people so much at that time, that it became a synonym for progress and power. The brown version, with solid buffers, with walk-over plates at the ends, small steps for brakemen, with a wrong track operation light, and with an inductive magnet. Locomotive road number 14253.

To build the MOC: > Bricks of good quality and clamping force are recommended. > Some parts of the model are filigree, and the bricks have to be put together with accuracy, e.g., the coupling rod or the “cowcatcher”. > The “Crocodile” runs through R40 radii, but I can only recommend up to R56 without hesitation, since it can get tricky at R40 depending on the track layouts. > For the big flange drive wheels, it is advisable to equip them with rubber belts, even if they are not driven. This ensures more reliable movement of the coupling rod. > a motorization concept is needed The MOC contains some expensive parts, e.g., 71321 in black. Maybe you are a lucky person and have these items in your collection. Nice for you. If not, you either invest the money, find alternative manufacturers which offer these items, or you find a work around with other bricks.

MOC stats: Lengths: 57.5 studs Height: 15.7 studs Width: 9.4 studs Weight: 0.72 kg Parts: 1,284

I provide a detailed step-by-step building instruction. At the end of it, you find an overview of all needed parts.

A print-ready sticker sheet is available too (in case the model contains stickers). I provide it in the widely used PDF-format in high-resolution and print-ready.

Furthermore, I provide the parts list in Excel format. This makes it easy to filter out needed parts and create order lists.

Upon request, I can provide the physical stickers for the model, complete with kiss-cut. The shipping of the stickers is under your own risk and will be sent via non-registered mail to keep the cost on a reasonable level. The sticker sheet will be cut to fit in a smaller envelope. The cost for the sticker service will be additional USD 45.00.

Disclaimer: I am not responsible for any damages or injury on parts and humans happen while following my instructions. Everything you do is your responsibility and under your personal risk.
