Shunter Engine V60 (BR106) of the Deutsche Reichsbahn

Updated: Jun 9, 2023

The V60 (BR106) is a diesel-hydraulic locomotive intended for shunting service. Between 1959 and 1982, over 2,200 engines were built and so it is one of the most frequently built European standard gauge locomotives.

The locomotive was widely used, not only by the East German Railway, but also by different works and mine railways as well as abroad and so, there are many different variants and colour schemes to find.

My MOC represents the V60 with serial number 1531. This locomotive had a light orange colour scheme, a black frame and red painted wheels (ideal to use for Lego, because the wheels in gray colour are not available ;-)

The model does not have an impetus and because of the scale and the fact, we talk about interlocking bricks, there are different compromises, I made, e.g. the coupling rods are not moving with the wheels. But basically, I have to say that the model comes very close to the original, so I can call it a “design before function” approach. There are three different version available: a push variant without motor, a variant with traditional 9V train motor and another one with (V train motor but controlled via Bluetooth remote control.

MOC stats (from the push version, the other variants are similar):

Length: 31.2 studs

Width: 8 studs (8.4 with step)

Height: 13.6 studs

Weight: 443 grams

Parts: 743 (with minifigs)

I provide a detailed step-by-step building instruction. At the end of it, you find an overview of all needed parts.

A print-ready sticker sheet is available too (in case the model contains stickers). I provide it in the widely used PDF-format in high-resolution and print-ready.

Furthermore, I provide the parts list in Excel format. This makes it easy to filter out needed parts and create order lists.

Disclaimer: I am not responsible for any damages or injury on parts and humans happen while following my instructions. Everything you do is your responsibility and under your personal risk.
