This MOC represents a special version of the BR118. The version with a wedged front. It is basically the same locomotive (BR118), but with a “face lift”, we would call it today. The plan was, to have a more representative design and the windscreen was dazzle-free now as well.
This wedged front got the serial numbers 059, 131 and 203.
So far so good. What I could not understand is the painting. Some of the 118 059-5 had a blue/tan colour design, some a red/white colour design. Anyway, to have a different colour (many locomotives of the DR are red), I decided to use the blue/tan colour.
This BR118 059-5 was used for heavy cargo and passenger trains on main lines. This main line version was equipped with two 2-axle bogies. If you want to read more about this locomotive, please follow this link:

The article is talking about the wedged front versions in the chapter “Bauarten”
Now to the MOC itself.
The locomotive has more angles instead of curves as the other BR118 has, but it wasn’t easier to build it. There is no brick that even comes close to the shape that is actually required to build the front of the locomotive, especially the windscreen section. The same issue actually which I had with the “normal” BR118 already.
I built two versions of the 118 059-5 and with the available instructions (see below) you are able to build both of them. One is a display or push version, without motor and the other is motorized with a 9-volt train motor.
There is enough space in the chassis. So you could even build your own motorization you prefer with PF or PU motors and batteries.
The specs below are based on the non-motorized version
Model information:
Length: 51.2 studs
Width: 8.8 studs (with door handles)
Height: 13.8 studs
Weight: 919 grams
Parts: 1,003
I provide a detailed step-by-step building instruction. At the end of it, you find an overview of all needed parts.
A print-ready sticker sheet is available too (in case the model contains stickers). I provide it in the widely used PDF-format in high-resolution and print-ready.
Furthermore, I provide the parts list in Excel format. This makes it easy to filter out needed parts and create order lists.
